I will be most successful in treating a client who is having difficulty with emotions--such as anxiety, depression, anger, grief--and who is willing to make a commitment to work on changing thinking patterns, behavioral patterns and emotional patterns that are causing misery and distress. This potentially successful client will not just be talking about problems each session, he or she will be learning, practicing and applying new skills. If my client needs medication, I will arrange a medication evaluation by our nurse practitioner, but mainly we will focus on skills, not pills! I have been a psychiatric nurse since 1971, but became an advanced practice nurse (a nurse-therapist) in 1989. I have broad experience-- working with serious mental illness in the state hospital and working in out-patient clinics with people of all ages and all types of problems. Our clinic is small and comfortable. You will be treated like our guest. Your therapy experience will be unique and you will be pleased with your results.

My passion is working with clients who struggle with eating concerns and body image issues. I have experience with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. I can also help if you feel that your relationship with food and/or exercise is complicated but have not been diagnosed with an eating disorder. I practice from a Health at Every Size perspective and offer an inclusive space for all. I value being empathetic while challenging my clients to step outside of their comfort zone and unlock their strengths. Taking the first step to get help and support can be intimidating but it can lead to growth and change! My approach to treating eating disorders is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as emotional exploration. Sessions focus on emotional awareness, thought exploration, mindfulness, and reducing avoidance. I also treat co-occurring diagnoses such as anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and depression. Whether you have been struggling for some time or are just curious about therapy, feel free to contact me. I am open to phone consultations prior to the first session. One phone call or email can be the first step to change and a growth mindset. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and I look forward to hearing from you!

Since therapy is about connection, finding the right fit for you is important. I aim to make this process more comfortable. I provide a safe and confidential environment. I have my Master of Art degree in Counseling with specialization in Clinical Mental Health. I am currently working on my doctorate in Psychology. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. Among my areas of training and experience are the treatment of anxiety, depression, mood disorders, complex trauma, PTSD, dissociative disorders, and women’s issues. View 5 Photos I use the more traditional treatment modalities, as well as somatic, psychodynamic, feminism orientation, neuropsychology, and evolutionary psychology. Also, I am fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy method to help individuals heal from trauma and other negative life experiences. What’s an effective therapist? In my opinion, as a client, you should be able to “fire” our therapeutic services from a place of gratitude because you were given the tools to feel empowered. An effective therapist reminds us of our capabilities. An effective guide can help you gather wisdom and tools. Enlighten yourself to move forward.

I'm currently have some availability in the afternoon for new clients that want to work through trauma & grief. Have you experienced a life shattering event that changed the way you looked at yourself? Trauma impacts us in many ways & makes us feel disconnected from who we truly are and what we really want out of our lives. The World Health Organization recommends EMDR therapy as an effective treatment for trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that uses bilateral stimulation to process traumatic events in a more adaptive manner & can alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, etc. I also use a therapeutic approach called Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) which helps individuals narrate their story of trauma to help highlight negative thoughts & feelings. Through sharing their story of trauma, clients will learn therapeutic techniques to re-examine their perception of the traumatic event. You don't have to untangle all of your trauma or grief on your own. Through our work together, I aim to help you feel more grounded in your true self & experience greater satisfaction in your life. I enjoy working with teens and adults that need help in understanding these experiences. I provide virtual therapy on Mon-Wed from 1-7 & Thurs from 3-7 pm.

Using a mindfulness-based cognitive approach, I help people deal with self-concept, self-esteem, identity formation and develop the ability to make conscious choices. I deal with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, and depression. I have been successful with my own full impact mindfulness technique in dealing with disassociation and psychosis, PTSD and trauma. Mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy is a way to "step back and become the observer behind the thinker." I do not teach though blocking or suppression however challenge individuals to challenge thought, feelings and their "disregulated thinker." I am in long term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and am actively engaged in 12 step recovery and have had my own "time of troubles" which give me a unique perspective. I treat "people not diagnosis" and use a holistic mind, body and spirit approach to wellness.

I believe, the single most important element of counseling is the relationship between the therapist and client. The first step is for us to work together to balance both a professional and heartfelt relationship. You'll find the office welcoming, comfortable, discreet atmosphere; where you can feel safe to discuss your needs. I serve a variety of client populations, including, youth, adolescent, adult and geriatric clients. Couples, Family, Individual and Group Therapy are a focus. Specializations: Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Anger, Parenting and Loss. Referrals for medication management can also be facilitated through my office, if desired.. Whether you are experiencing workplace reentry, job loss, stress management, or career choices, life transitions, relationships, parenting, or chronic illness; we'll look into why themes repeat themselves and identify new outcomes. We'll work together to develop fresh goals and new solutions to consider on your journey. As a Christian counselor, we can address the, mental, social and spiritual, (psychosociospiritual) parts of your life. I believe that birth order, family roles, social experiences and birth home, along with your faith walk, all come together to flavor your reactions to life situations.

We are all different in the way we experience life; each of us has a unique perspective in the way we interpret and how we feel about our personal experiences. What I don't do: I am not here to pass judgment or to tell you how to live your life. What I can do: I provide a compassionate approach to help guide and support your decision to make positive changes in your life and help you find alternate solutions to your everyday or recurring problems. I have experience working with couples, individuals, and families looking for help in dealing with relationship problems, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personal addiction, and family members affected by their loved one's substance abuse. I take pride in being down to earth and gentle, however I am not afraid to challenge unrealistic/unhealthy thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Whatever the issue, I believe in treating others how I would want to be treated when dealing with topics that are extremely personal, private, and sensitive.

I also work systemically with couples and families to build more supportive & connected relationships. View 11 Photos I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) trained in theories of individual, family, & couples counseling. I see clients for a variety of reasons which include but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, relationship problems, identity concerns, gender and sexuality, self-esteem, family problems, struggles with mood, and major life transitions/stress.
